I'm so sorry I haven't posted in forever! I started a new year at college studying Horticulture and my step-daughter joined our German Club dancing group so I've been busy. So today I am going to write on a seasonal topic and introduce hedge witchery to you.
We have just passed the autumnal equinox. Daylight hours are slipping away a little quicker each day. The cool north winds have returned and even though the sun is warm the nights are cold almost to frost. Leaves have begun to change, the productivity in my kitchen garden is winding down for the year, the squirrels are spending a noticeable amount of time on the ground and the fowl are flying south overhead. This is a very important time of year. It is time for the wheel of power to move once more to the Crone phase. My preferred interpretation of the Crone is the Scottish 'Cailleach Bheur' or Winter Hag. The Winter Hag controls the weather elements of winter (winds, snow, frost etc.) and is said to watch over the herds and wild animals. She is old, stern and solemn but at the same time she is wise, industriousness, and even compassionate.
Shortly before Samhain/Halloween I will be paying homage to the Winter Hag to welcome her back to our land. I will post again soon to talk more about Hedge Witchery and how that might differ than other forms of witchcraft.
